West Branch is the Ogemaw County seat and the biggest town on our west side, sitting at the I-75 exit on M-55. The in-town lots have the big old maples that come with a county seat, the subdivisions and farmsteads outside town run to red oak, pine and ash, and the pole-barn parcels along the county roads are the usual cut-over mix of aspen and oak. We cover West Branch for tree removal, trimming, stump grinding, lot clearing and storm cleanup, and Larry answers the phone at (989) 305-9731 himself.

Town lots, farm lots and commercial jobs

In town, the work is mostly big maples that have outgrown their yards: limbs over the roof, roots lifting the sidewalk, a crown that has started dying back at the top. We take those down from the bucket truck in pieces, between the house and the wires. Out on the farm lots and the wooded parcels, it is dead ash in the fence rows, oak that needs thinning, and clearing a building site for a pole barn or a house.

West Branch also has more commercial property than anywhere else in our area. If a business along M-55 or by the interstate has a hazard tree over a parking lot or a building, we can look at it, quote it, and get it done early before customers arrive.

Oak wilt in Ogemaw County

Oak wilt is confirmed in Ogemaw County. Red oak dies fast from it, so the DNR no-prune window of April 15 to July 15 matters here, and we keep oak trimming around West Branch to the dormant season. If an oak in town or on the farm wilts from the top down in July, call, because the neighbors' oaks can be connected through the roots and it spreads.

Emerald ash borer has been statewide for years and the ash around West Branch are mostly gone. What is left standing is brittle and a hazard over driveways and fence lines. Dead ash removal from the bucket is safer than climbing a trunk that may not hold.

Storm cleanup

Storms that come across the state on the west wind hit Ogemaw County first, and West Branch gets its share of trees down on houses and across roads. The storm line is (989) 305-9731, answered 24 hours a day in storm season. If a tree is on the wire between the pole and your house, that service drop is the homeowner's responsibility under Consumers Energy's rules, and we coordinate a temporary disconnect with Consumers before we cut.

Stumps and digging

Stump grinding follows most removals in town, where a stump in a small yard is in the way. We call MISS DIG 811 for a utility locate before every grind, which takes three business days, so plan for that. If you would rather have the stump pulled with the tractor on a rural lot, say so and we will quote it both ways.
