Jobs beyond about 25 miles from Lupton carry a travel fee, which is shown in the estimate.

It depends on the tree, but as a starting point: most removals in our area land between $250 and $4,500 depending on height and access, most trimming between $250 and $1,500, and stump grinding runs $3 to $6 per inch with a $100 minimum. Yes. One dead tree, one stump, a few limbs over the roof, or a face cord of firewood are all worth the call. Small jobs get fit in around the bigger ones, so a little flexibility on the day helps.

A healthy tree with a few problem limbs is a trimming job. Dead limbs across most of the crown, a hollow or cracked trunk, fungus at the base, or a new lean after a storm point to removal. If you are not sure, send a photo; sometimes the honest answer is that the tree is fine and just needs the deadwood out.

In winter. We do not prune oaks between April 15 and July 15 because that is when oak wilt spreads on fresh cuts, and it is confirmed in Iosco, Ogemaw and Arenac Counties. If a storm wounds an oak in that window, seal the wound right away with latex paint or pruning sealer and call us.

More urgent than most people think. Emerald ash borer killed the ash across our whole area, and a dead ash goes brittle within a couple of years, at which point it cannot be climbed safely and has to be worked entirely from the bucket with more rigging. If it can hit the house, the drive or the neighbor's place, get it priced this year.

No. Removal is the labor, the equipment and the risk; the wood is worth far less than the time it takes to bring the tree down, and hauling it away costs money too. What we can do is chip the brush and leave the trunk bucked into rounds for your wood pile, which takes a little off the price.

On private rural land around here, usually not. The exceptions: a tree in the road right-of-way needs a permit from the county road commission, a lake or river lot within 500 feet of the water can need a county soil erosion permit if the ground is disturbed, and a few townships have vegetation rules in their zoning. We check with your township before we start.
