Mio is the Oscoda County seat, on the Au Sable River in the middle of the jack pine plains. The lots along the river carry cedar and hardwoods that lean toward the water, the town has older yards with big maples, and everything else is jack pine and red pine on sand with red oak and aspen mixed in. We cover Mio for tree removal, dead tree removal, lot clearing, stump grinding and storm cleanup. Call (989) 305-9731 for a free estimate.

After the March 2025 ice storm

Oscoda County was under the state emergency declaration for the ice storm of March 28 to 31, 2025, which loaded the pines and hardwoods with ice until they broke, knocked power out for weeks in places, and damaged hundreds of thousands of acres of forest across northern Michigan. Around Mio, there are still cracked tops, hanging limbs and bent-over pines from that storm sitting over cabins, driveways and yards. Hangers do not come down on a calm day; they come down in the next wind. If you have ice-storm damage still in the canopy, call (989) 305-9731 and we will take it out from the bucket truck.

River lots and pine lots

Along the Au Sable, the work is cedar and hardwood leaning over the bank, and it comes with rules: the river carries Natural Rivers protections, and stump grinding or grading within 500 feet of the water can require a soil erosion permit from Oscoda County. We know both and tell you what applies before we quote. Out on the pine plains, it is dead jack pine and red pine over cabins and lots to clear for new builds. We take out what is in the footprint, chip the brush, and grind or pull the stumps.

Oak wilt, ash and dead pine

Oak wilt is confirmed in neighboring counties, and the DNR no-prune window for oaks, April 15 to July 15, applies statewide, so we keep oak trimming around Mio to the dormant season. Emerald ash borer has killed the ash in the lowlands along the river, and those trunks are brittle. Dead ash and dead pine both come down from the bucket, not by a climber.

Storm line and the wires

For a tree on a cabin, across a drive or on the lines, the storm line is (989) 305-9731, answered 24 hours a day in storm season. If the tree is on the wire from the pole to the house, we arrange a temporary disconnect with your utility before we cut; under Consumers Energy's rules that service drop is the homeowner's responsibility, and the other utilities up here work much the same way. Before any stump grind we call MISS DIG 811, which takes three business days for the locate.
